In 2021, the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) and the U.S. Mission to Indonesia partnered with the Nusa Indonesian Gastronomy Foundation and the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to launch the Pusaka Rasa Nusantara project, as part of Pekan Kebudayaan Nasional. Pusaka Rasa Nusantara is the first project in AFCP’s 20-year history to focus specifically on the preservation of culinary heritage and food traditions. Through this grant, the Nusa Gastronomy team documents and preserves traditional culinary practices that underpin Indonesia’s diverse cultural identities across the archipelago. The project will highlight the connection of local food traditions to sustainable and profitable agricultural practices within their respective regions, while seeking to empower local women business owners and cooks.
