In this session, Mei Batubara takes the spotlight as she unveils her extensive research on the culinary world of the Betawi, the indigenous people of Jakarta, formerly known as Batavia. Supported by the Ambassador Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) through the US Embassy Jakarta, Batubara’s enlightening book, Dandang Betawi, delves into the intriguing secrets behind the extraordinary cuisine of the Betawi people. Influenced by a rich tapestry of Chinese, Indian, Arab, Portuguese, and Dutch cultures, the Betawi have cultivated a unique culinary heritage. Their mastery of foraging and cooking ingredients such as water hyacinth and durian flowers distinguishes them as the only Indonesians known for these distinctive practices.
Dalam sesi ini, Mei Batubara akan mendapatkan panggung untuk membagikan hasil penelitian bercakupan luas yang ia lakukan mengenai dunia kuliner orang Betawi, penghuni asli kota Jakarta yang sebelumnya dikenal sebagai Batavia. Didukung oleh Ambassador Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP; Dana Duta Besar untuk Pelestarian Budaya) melalui Kedutaan Besar Amerika Serikat di Jakarta, buku Batubara Dandang Betawi yang mencerahkan menyelami rahasia-rahasia menarik di balik tradisi hidangan orang Betawi yang luar biasa.
