Sangeeta Maharaj

Sangeeta Maharaj is a Fijian chef who, while studying Computer Science in Auckland, New Zealand, discovered her passion for the culinary arts while working part-time at local restaurants. Recognizing the power of the hospitality business to bring people together during times of crisis, she transformed her seaside house into a homestay following a coup d’état in Fiji in 2006, which quickly turned into a dining hub. Sangeeta was awarded a scholarship from Le Cordon Bleu school of culinary arts and hospitality in New Zealand. She currently runs a restaurant called Eden, specialising in vegetables and seafood sourced from the local Suva market. Most of her employees are single mothers who had no prior training or experience before joining her business. Together with her business partner, local food produce expert Suliana Siwatibau, she co-founded the Fiji Cancer Center.

Sangeeta Maharaj adalah seorang chef dari Fiji. Ketika ia belajar Ilmu Komputer di Auckland, New Zealand, sebuah pengalamannya bekerja paruh waktu di sebuah restoran lokal menyadarkannya bahwa kecintaannya yang sesungguhnya terletak di dunia seni kuliner. Sadar bahwa bisnis hospitality dapat mempersatukan orang-orang di tengah krisis, ia mengubah rumah pinggir lautnya menjadi sebuah homestay setelah terjadi kudeta di Fiji pada 2006, yang segera menjadi pusat makan-makan populer. Kebanyakan dari para pegawainya adalah ibu tunggal yang belum pernah mengalami pelatihan atau pengalaman kerja sebelum bergabung dengan bisnisnya. Bersama dengan mitra bisnisnya, pakar bahan makanan lokal Suliana Siwatibau, ia mendirikan Fiji Cancer Center.
