Hailed as a superfood, seaweeds are incredibly rich sources of nutrients, unique bioactives, and ecologically, act as a nursery for life in our oceans. Indonesia produces two-thirds of the global seaweed supply and the seaweed industry offers an important livelihood for many women, rural, and indigenous Indonesians. In Bali during the pandemic, there were huge increases in seaweed production due to job losses. But is the cultivation of seaweed sustainable, and can it survive global warming?
