Sugi Lanus is a reader of ancient Balinese and Javanese lontar manuscripts who graduated from the Department of Balinese Literature at Udayana University. Since university, he has worked part-time as a research assistant at Princeton University, UCLA, Murdoch University, Leiden University, Osaka University, and others. In 2006, he founded the Hanacaraka Society (2006), whose work is focused on researching Balinese and Lombok lontar. Sugi Lanus has been a speaker at various cultural gatherings such as the 5th Indonesian Cultural Congress (2003), Ubud Writers and Readers Festival (2004-2017), International Conference on Tagore, Hanoi, Vietnam (2011), Frankfurt Book Fair (2015), and is active in various discussions of Hindu priesthood in Bali.
