Puan Rimba

Puan Rimba are resilient groups of women from South Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, and North Kalimantan who manage forests under Indonesia’s Social Forestry framework. They act as frontline guardians of the environment by protecting biodiversity, using forest resources sustainably, and preserving local knowledge and traditions. Through the Puan Rimba initiative, they also develop forest-based ingredients into high-value products that connect traditional wisdom with modern markets. In addition, they serve as cultural ambassadors, sharing the stories and flavours of Indonesia’s forests through culinary and community-based experiences rooted in heritage.
